The boxy crossover is coming back. Its old W463 platform was built in 1990, and now it is time for radical changes. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class will come sooner than anyone expected, and it is going to surprise with many changes. First of all, the G-segment is redesigned. Whenever we use that word, we know many things are changing on the vehicle.
Not only that base model is suffering modifications, but entire lineup. Everything is under re-evaluation. So, fans might not see all crossovers they got used to with G-class. At the beginning of the new generation, the new lineup will offer a base model and AMG. In few months, diesel model is coming. This is certain, while future of other versions is not so bright at this moment.
2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Coming Soon
We definitely didn’t expect to see 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class right at the start of 2018. But well, Detroit car show is scheduled for January. It seems that Mercedes will present their compact SUV there. Nevertheless, this could be almost production version, since dealerships will have to wait until mid-2018 to offer first examples of crossover. Worldwide launch will be complete by 2019.
2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Changes
Almost every day we can see new spy shots of 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class. What is obvious and cover can’t hide, is traditional boxy appearance. So, there is no mistake it is a Mercedes-Benz G-Class on photos. Some other changes only true fans and experts can spot. The vehicle is bigger than before. We believe it will grow to 4 inches in length and width. In photos, we can also see side exhaust tips and large wheels, probably 18-inches.
It is certain that with the base model, an AMG version is coming too. While we could see some details on the standard crossover, this version is hiding a lot of parts. For example, the grille. This surprises experts. On the other hand, it is an obvious sign that something special is on the way. We believe that German carmaker is going to install Panamericana grille for AMG. Also, this version will get a special engine.
2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Engines
It is still unknown what engine 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is going to use. For AMG model we are pretty sure that 4.0-l twin-turbo V-8 is the main option. This drivetrain will deliver the monstrous amount of power. The base model is not so powerful. We believe 2019 G-Class is going to get power from the new lineup of V-6 mills. The turbocharged straight-six unit is good for on and off-road driving.
Performance and Driving
Larger crossover doesn’t mean the driver will have a harder task. Contrary, maneuverability is improved. Also, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is getting an independent suspension. One of the extra versions could be a Maybach G65. This vehicle would be powered by the most powerful V-12 drivetrain, which can top outputs of AMG. For better off-road capabilities, the special body-on-frame platform is coming. There will be three locking differentials for low-range gearing.
