After some while, the GMC is turning their attention to crossover range. Although their trucks are a priority and make most income, SUV class is growing. The 2019 GMC Yukon could be a surprise in the upcoming season with some changes and redesign. This is a fourth generation of the vehicle, and it is time for a mid-cycle update.
Fans will welcome changes on the 2019 Yukon. Besides cosmetic modifications, interior updates, minor tuning of the drive system, the crossover is bringing additions to its lineup. Well, not too big, since it will again be available as XL and Denali. But, these trims are getting more features and equipment, to refresh the entire image of Yukon SUV.
2019 GMC Yukon Engine and Specs
Under the hood of the 2019 GMC Yukon is a 5.3-l V-8 EcoTec engine with the capability to produce 360 horsepower. The same powerplant is in Yukon XL model, which is stretched version of the base unit. Other parts of the drive systems are a 6-speed transmission and direct-injection. The SUV needs under 6 seconds for sprint to 60 mph. However, fuel economy is not a highlight of the crossover. Yukon can deliver only 23 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg combined.
Top of the class model is a 2019 Yukon Denali. As for its predecessor, this version is getting a special treatment. Engine room holds a 6.2-l V-8 beast. Also, an 8-speed auto gearbox replaces a 6-speed transmission. Redesign of this model and larger usage of aluminum and other lightweight materials will improve its overall mileage. Denali version of GMC Yukon can make more power, 420 hp. Compared to 380 lb-ft of torque on base trims, this model is also dominant. It can produce 460 pound-feet. The magnetic ride control and few other technologies will improve trailering and hauling capabilities.
2019 GMC Yukon Changes and Features
Again, there is a big difference between regular and Denali model. As you can notice from this review, XL model is a larger version of Yukon with the same equipment and trim levels. New 2019 GMC Yukon will change the structure of features across all trims. Also, the interior is getting new colors as a part of refreshment. Exterior paint jobs are the same. Developers are working on the new MyLink infotainment. Part of it will be a large 8-inch touchscreen display.
Significant changes on the platform are not certain for this edition. The 2019 Yukon will be again a full-size crossover, with seven seating positions and 4-door layout.
2019 GMC Yukon Future
The 2019 GMC Yukon is a part of the fourth generation of the crossover. This one will be available for a while until the big update. However, the total redesign is planned for 2021 or 2022. By then, changes for the 2019 year model could be the most significant.
However, by the time new generation hits the road, GMC could introduce a new 10-speed transmission. It is not so likely for 2019 season. Also, there are no intentions of changing the current K2 platform. We will know more after the release of the new GMC Yukon. This is going to happen very probably in second part of 2018.
