The chief of development in Audi, Peter Mertens, announced that the company has plans to develop a series of new electric cars within the E-Tron family. The 2019 Audi e-tron Quattro electric SUV will be a competitor to the Tesla Model X and the upcoming Model Y. Mertens confirmed that electric cars will visually differ completely from their conventional brothers. Also, by 2025 Audi will have electric cars of all sizes. Batteries will have an excellent range, from about 160 miles for smallest crossovers, and up to 300 miles for e-SUVs.
Among other things, Mertens said that Audi will not follow the footsteps of BMW. Their rival is increasing the usage of carbon fiber. Instead, 2019 Audi e-tron Quattro electric SUV will concentrate on the use of magnesium and its alloys. The new model will share a platform with an e-tron Sportback model. However, with some design modifications, the Quattro electric SUV will be bigger than its sibling.

The Audi E-Tron Sportback is 193 in long, 79 inches wide and 60 m high. The wheelbase is 115 in. In addition to specific propulsion technology, the E-Tron Quattro electric SUV differs from conventional Audi crossovers by the design of the exterior, which clearly emphasizes its electrical nature. As with many similar conceptual solutions, Audi also resorted to small cameras that replaced the exterior mirrors. Also, there is no door handle. Extended arches cover massive 23-inch wheels.

The performance specifications of 2019 Audi e-tron Quattro electric SUV are still unknown. The concept has three electric motors that can produce at least 430 hp and more than 550 lb-ft of torque. Thus, the concept reached 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, with a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h). Its autonomy was 500 km or around 300 miles, and it could have been fully charged in only 50 minutes.
Electricity is stored in lithium-ion batteries with the capacity of 95 kWh. Instead of conventional drive units, the Audi electric crossover is powered by three electric motors. One electric motor is on the front axle, the other two on the rear. Thanks to its layout, the Audi E-Tron Quattro has all four-wheel drive. The total power of the three powertrain units is 435 hp (320 kW) and 500 hp (370 kW) when the so-called ‘boost’ mode is included.
