The 2018 Toyota RAV4 gets a new trim named Adventure, aimed at buyers looking for a sporty compact vehicle. Before giving it a makeover in 2019 or so Toyota has decided to give a mid cycle refresh for 2018. Other trims get minor changes for 2018. The Toyota RAV4, a capable compact crossover SUV which received a major revamp in 2013, is nearing its current lifespan end.
2018 Toyota RAV4 – Redesign
For 2018, The Toyota RAV4 comes in 6 trim levels- LE, XLE, SE, Platinum, Limited and the new entrant aka Adventure. The exterior styling varies according to trim. For example, the SE trim gets special aluminum wheels, mesh grille and black mirrors. The Platinum version gets different accents. The new Adventure trim is laden with thicker gray cladding and silver rocker panel trim.
The cabin of 2018 is sleek and focus is here on usability and practicality over lavishness. Cargo space is good enough for a compact vehicle of this stature. Quality of materials in base trim is decent and things improve in higher trims.
2018 Toyota RAV4 – Engine
The majority of trims of 2018 Toyota RAv4 2018 are fitted with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder unit that makes 176 HP. It gets clubbed with a 6-speed automatic transmission gearbox and AWD comes as option. A hybrid version is there. It gets a 2.5-liter engine with 2 electric motors. The collective output stands at 194 HP.
Toyota is determined to deploy its latest set of TSS driver-assistance/ collision-avoidance technologies in all new vehicles. The 2018 RAV4 also gets this treatment. The safety features included are dynamic radar cruise control, pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and automatic high-beam. Except base LE trim, each trim gets blind-spot monitoring system. A 360-degree camera system is optional in all trim and in Platinum it is standard.
Toyota has used its Entune infotainment system in the 2018 RAV4. It is getting better but will need much more to match the like of GM IntelliLink or Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment setup.
The XLE trim gets 17-inch aluminum wheels, power tailgate, power sunroof, 2-zone climate control. RAV4 SE trim gets LED lighting, 18-inch wheels, leatherette seating material, heated front seats, keyless entry, sport-tuned suspension. Limited trim gets shiny 18-inch wheels, premium infotainment system, navigation, frameless rearview mirror. RAV 4 Platinum gets body-color trim, heated steering wheel, and JBL premium sound system. RAV4 Adventure trim gets raised suspension, black wheels, rubber floor mats and cargo area 120V power outlet. It also gets Trailer Sway Control and Hill-Start Assist Control. The trims can be laden with a Cold Weather Package as well.
2018 Toyota RAV4 – Pricing and Availability
The 2018 RAV 4 will reach showrooms for sale within few months. The price of Adventure trim is $27000 and rest of trims will get their price tag soon.
The Toyota RAV4 gets a nice makeover for 2018. The design may not be radically new but Adventure trim looks enticing. The cabin is practically designed and you get good set of safety features. The Cold weather package is also handy. Fuel economy seekers should go for the Hybrid model.
