A lot of interest caused by the release of the TRD off-road packages is what Toyota had in plans. Three vehicles got features from this addition, and it seems like it works great for the company. Now, we will see new editions of vehicles, an all three, 4Runner, Sequoia, and Tacoma truck will appear with TRD pro versions as a high-end model. In this review, we will present the 2018 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro.
Comparing to its predecessor in 2017 season, this model doesn’t bring specific changes in the package. So, the redesign of Toyota 4Runner will get the updates of TRD Pro version. Nevertheless, the SUV is not less exciting because of that. Already in 2019, we will have new equipment as a part of this package.
2018 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro Features
The 2018 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro trim of the popular crossover will carry various unique features. It will make it special and better than its competition. However, the TRD (Toyota Racing Development) created the package for off-road conditions. But, besides performance, some parts were redesigned and replaced by other, more stylish ones. So, we are getting a new, more appealing crossover, that also works great off the road.
The 2018 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro brings Bilstein shocks for high performances. Also, here we can find special front springs. 17-inch wheels are offering all-terrain tires. Black alloy rims are choice for designers. Front skid plate holds TRD stamp. Furthermore, this package includes electronic locking rear differential and CRAWL control system. Visually, outside we will notice special grille with Toyota name. Inside, unique seats and TRD shift knob will make this crossover recognizable.
2018 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro Engine
Standard offer for the 4Runner offers a 4.0-liter V-6 drivetrain. The same unit is used by a TRD Pro version. However, it comes with part-time 4-wheel drive and an active traction control. The 2018 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro pairs this drivetrain with a 5-speed automatic transmission. A 4.0-l naturally-aspirated drivetrain with this gearbox delivers 270 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to special shocks, driving the crossover off the road will be smooth and comfortable. Although its combined fuel economy rating is set at 18 mpg, we doubt that 2018 4Runner with TRD Pro package can achieve such numbers on the off-road drive. We would rather say 15 mpg is more realistic. Acceleration 0-60 mph is around 7.5 seconds.
2018 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro Pricing and Future
The 2018 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro is top of the class model. Current SUV is just $50 cheaper than a Limited edition. However, while the mentioned crossover offers premium materials and features, TRD package is there to improve overall driving impression. It costs $42,675 and it is almost $20k more than the base unit. It perfectly shows what can we expect from 2018 4Runner TRD Pro.
While the current vehicle is not coming with modification of the package, the next edition will surely refresh it. New features will be there. We believe that Toyota prepares special suspension and shocks for 2019 TRD Pro package, as well as for TRD Off-Road and Off-Road Premium.
