There are so many compact crossover vehicles in the market nowadays that you can seriously get spoilt for choice but 2018 Mazda CX-5 has a distinct aura. Since its impressive debut a few years back, the car has managed to get a steadily growing fan base, all over the world. It was the company’s first model to feature the much-touted Design language-‘Kodo-Soul of motion’. The model was also first from Mazda to be laden with its Skyactiv Technology suite. The unique styling with peppy ride quality won the Cx-5 a loyal user base. However, compact crossover segment has witnessed massive growth and rivals like Ford Escape and Honda CR-V have flexed their muscles. The CX-5, therefore, is getting a revamp. Months after taking the veils of the 2017 model, Mazda is testing the 2018 prototype. Spy shots of 2018 CX-5 have appeared online.
2018 Mazda CX-5 – Design and Technology:
At first glance, you may think the upcoming 2018 Mazda CX-5 looks just like the existing model. However, on second look you may see a few subtle changes in design. On closer look, you will see some changes in grille design and headlamp. The side body looks a little different from the existing model as well. It is expected that the cabin will be lavish and it will be quite spacious too. Like the existing model, the 2018 CX-5 is expected to be equipped with several in cabin storage options like cup holders and a large center console. Cargo space is expected to be decent but here the CX-5 gets outshined by quite a few rivals. Overall, the new model is going to be lightweight than the existing one. It will be realized in 4 trims, in all probability.
The 2018 Mazda CX-5 will be laden with latest infotainment features and safety technologies. The trims will get touchscreen infotainment system with 7-inch display. It will have support for Bluetooth, USB, and Navigation. Top end trim will get a sophisticated Bose sound system. Support for Smartphone integration will be there.
Expected safety features include i-Antisense safety package of Mazda which comprises of automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring etc.
2018 Mazda CX-5 – Powertrain Expectations:
It is not clear if Mazda will retain the 2017 CX-5’s powertrain in the 2018 version or new engines will be used. Industry sources, however, indicate that the 2018 model will sport same engines but with revised output. So, you can expect the car to be equipped with a 2.0 and 2.5-litre engines or a unit from the new range of Mazda’s SkyActiv II engines. In selected markets, there would be CX-5 with diesel engines too.
2018 Mazda CX-5 – Price and Release Date:
Mazda has not divulged the price of Mazda CX-9 2018 but the base trim price should be around $22,670. It will be released in late 2017.
The 2018 Mazda CX-5 is going to be a nice revamp over the existing model. Some details are still not clear but it seems to have things in place. With right pricing, it has the potential to trounce the category rivals.
