Originally based on the FCA groups’ Kubang concept car’, the new 2018 Maserati Levante is one of its kind luxury crossover SUV. Luxury SUV segment is witnessing a growth like never before these days. From Iconic British brands like JLR to German luxury carmakers like BMW- all seem to be on a spree to spruce up their luxury SUV models and some new models are also being readied for 2018 launch. If you would rather prefer a touch of Italian elegance and aristocracy over more commonplace luxury offerings in this segment, the upcoming Maserati Levante is the right stuff for you.
2018 Maserati Levante – Design
The Levante made its debut in 2016 and the company’s first ever SUV gets a makeover for 2018. The design updates at exterior are minimal but you will find traces of the siblings Ghibli and Quattroporte. The vertical grille slats with massive trident logo at a middle of the grille sits at the front. You get sleek menacing looking headlamps and wraparound LED tail lamps at the back side. Overall, the coupe inspired styling is evident- much in the line of BMW X6. However, the distinctive exterior styling makes it easy to spot even in a parking lot with another coupe like SUVs around. You get a regular model and a sports variant. The 20-inch satin alloy wheels ooze elegance.
The cabin, as expected oozes luxury and attention to detail is amazingly good. The front buckets seats are soft and quite plush. The back row is ideal for tow big sized adults, as it is. It’s Sport trim gets contrasting hued upholstery.
2018 Maserati Levante – Engine
The 2018 Maserati Levante gets powerful engine under its hood. The base trim gets powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 unit and it is clubbed with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. AWD is standard and the output is 345 hp. The Sport trim gets a more powerful engine with an output of 424 hp. The nice thing is the ride height of the car can be adjusted at 5 levels which give it great off –road skills. This is made possible owing to its specially developed air suspension setup. There are specific driving modes like Sport, normal, off-road and ICE. Interestingly, the Sport mode operates on 2 levels.
In both safety and amenities, the 2018 Maserati Levante scores pretty well. The safety technologies include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, a 360-degree camera and lane departure warning.
The quality of upholstery is plush and the car gets Touch Control Plus infotainment system. This is basically a tweaked version of FCA’s popular UConnect setup but it works well. The dashboard and instrument cluster resembles that of Chrysler cars to an extent.
2018 Maserati Levante – Price and Release Date
The 2018 Maserati Levante will go on sale soon. The base trim pricing is approx $73,000 while Sport trim may be priced around $84,000.
The Maserati Levante 2018 is one luxury crossover SUV that comes across as an enticing alternative to its British and German segment rivals. The powertrain is impressive and ride quality is awesome. However, interior still requires some refinements.
