There is no denying the CR-V is among the most popular and top selling models of Honda. The compact crossover, based originally on the company’s Civic platform has been in production since 1995. Just after the Japanese carmaker released the 2017 CR-V, the successor has been put on a test. The spy shots of upcoming 2018 Honda CR-V have appeared online. This would be the 6th generation of the vehicle. It is going to be positioned between the bigger Pilot and smaller HR-V.
2018 Honda CR-V – Design:
While the spy shots of 2018 Honda CR-V are camouflaged, it is quite evident the vehicle will be larger than the existing model. It is built on Civic’s modular chassis. It seems the new car will look sportier and sleeker. The tail lamps are the same while Honda has tweaked the shape of the headlamps. It is going to get aggressive front grille along with a longer hood.
It is not known what changes have been made in the cabin. However, the passengers are going to get more legroom and boot space may also get a boost. The car may have 4 trims- LX, EX, EX-L and top end Touring. Top trim will get lavish upholstery and better quality materials in the cabin, as expected.
2018 Honda CR-V – Power Expectations:
While Honda has not said anything officially on the exact powertrain to be used in 2018 CR-V, it is expected the model will have the 1.5-liter with 174 hp and it may get the 2.4-liter engine which makes 185 hp. However, in CR-V the output may be tweaked. AWD may be optional for the model. The engine may be clubbed with a new continuously variable automatic transmission gearbox. Rumors are there about diesel engines and possible hybrid powertrain but these may not be offered at launch time.
Like the exciting model, 2018 CR-V will be replete with latest safety features and entertainment options. So, along with several airbags, you can expect features like traction control, lane departure warning, and a rearview camera. Top trims may get blind spot monitor and forward collision mitigation.
The car will feature Honda’s latest version of the infotainment system. It will feature Smartphone integration, touch screen input, and GPS. Other amenities include heated front seats, dual-zone HVAC, heated mirrors, remote engine start and several USB ports in a cabin.
2018 Honda CR-V – Price and Availability:
Exact release date of 2018 Honda CR-V is not known. However, it is expected to hit the roads in late 2017. Pricing details are not yet clear. But Honda is unlikely to hike the price much. So, the base trim price could be around $26,000 or so. Top trim price may be $35,000 and customizations may make it soar higher.
The 2018 Honda CR-V seems like an interesting compact crossover that has got some welcome changes. New powertrain and styling update will help it combat rivals like Mazda CX-5, Ford Escape, and Toyota RAV4. It will also get decent safety features. However, Honda also needs to keep the pricing competitive to woo more buyers.
