The upcoming 2018 Ford Expedition has displayed ahead of the Chicago Auto Show 2017. It boasts of new driver assist tech and as many as 40 new features. Ford is among the carmakers that keep a focus on the SUV segment and have several popular contenders in that segment. The Expedition is one large sized SUV that has enjoyed a steady popularity since its debut in 1997. However, with time, several rivals have emerged on the horizon and their offerings have managed to woo a chunk of customers from Ford. Not willing to backtrack, Ford has given the 2018 Expedition a makeover. The changes are both in exterior styling and in the cabin. The new Expedition will compete with the likes of Chevrolet Suburban, Nissan Armada, and Toyota Sequoia.

There is no denying the 2018 Ford Expedition looks both handsome and rugged. Its truck roots are visible in design but it is not drab looking at all. The Expedition is now bigger in width and length but weighs about 300 pounds less than the existing model. The top-end Platinum trim receives aesthetic elements. Its chrome trim and cheese grater style grille look superb. It also gets full LED headlights, DRL and Fog lights. An Expedition Max version is there for users with extensive cargo usage needs. The SUV will have the trims- XLT, XL, Limited, and Platinum. The Tow hooks, silver plated roof rails and kick motion power liftgate ensure utilitarian aspects of the car are not overlooked.
The cabin of 2018 model has also received refinements. It is an eight-passenger SUV. Inside, you will find the well known F-150 dashboard and quality of plastic is top notch, more so in Platinum trim. You get dual-zone climate control. Those with deeper pockets can opt for wood and metal trim in a cabin and leather-wrapped dash along with perforated leather seats. The rear row of seats is spacious. Both 2nd and third rows can be folded. Ford’s cargo management system is top notch and there is a panorama roof above. Inside the cabin, the center storage bin is large and 17 cup holders are there.
The 2018 Ford Expedition is loaded to the hilt, as far as amenities and safety measures are concerned. All trims get a newer version of Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system. It supports Smartphone integration, USB, and Bluetooth streaming. Yu get an 110-volt outlet and Wireless phone charging socket. In the car, wifi has a range of 50 feet and supports 10 devices which are superb. You can also make use of a FordPass app to control some vehicle features remotely.
The 2018 Expedition gets safety features like 360-degree camera, lane keeping assists, adaptive cruise control, traction control, blind-spot detection, and airbags.
2018 Ford Expedition – Powertrain
As per industry buzz, the 2018 Ford Expedition is getting a powerful 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine. This is coupled with new 10-speed automatic transmission unit. The output figures are not yet known. But it could be close to 400 hp. To enhance fuel efficacy, this engine is equipped with an automated start and stop mechanism. Based on trim, you get 18-22-inch wheels. Since large SUV buyers can tow a trailer and smaller cars, Ford has enhanced the towing capacity of 2018 Expedition which is 9200 pounds. Ford calls its version of drive mode selector Terrain Management System. You get 7 modes like normal, snow, grass and mud etc.
2018 Ford Expedition – Price and Release Date
The 2018 Ford Expedition is set for late 2017 release. Pricing is not clear but the base trim may be priced around $47,000. Top trim price may be close to $70,000.
