2018 Ford Edge Sport Review, Changes, Specs

The 2018 Ford Edge Sport is revealed at the Dallas Fort Worth Auto Show. Based on Ford’s global midsize vehicle platform, this crossover was introduced in 2015. In 2016 it was redesigned with some minor changes and remained unchanged in 2017. With the 2018 Edge around the corner, it is expected to remain almost unchanged, with an update in the powertrain. This mid-size two-row crossover is placed above the subcompact EcoSport and compact Escape crossovers, but below the three-row Flex, Explorer, and Expedition. Ford claims that the new 2018 Ford Edge Sport is an opportunity to offer customers a vehicle that meets their high expectations while giving them more choice.

2018 Ford Edge Sport – Futuristic Design

With the new 2018 Ford Edge Sport, Ford is set to give its customers the look and technology they are after, for an affordable price. What helps the Edge to look better and stand out are a set of dark-colored 19-inch, 10-spoke wheels. These are supplemented by a similarly darkened grille, mirror caps, rear spoiler, and decorative front and rear skid plates. This new package provides blacked-out headlamp bezels and side window trim that replace the Edge’s standard chrome.

The interior promises to feature the new Mayan Gray fabric seat upholstery with Umber Miko perforated sueded-cloth inserts and Umber contrast stitching. Ford chose cloth seats for customers who live in hotter climates. A handsome custom Copper Sands textured appliqué, adds to the bold styling and carries the color theme to the dash. Its gives luxurious looks to the interior and adds to the visual excitement. The carpets are custom-embroidered with an Umber “Edge” logo. Buyers can also experience a panoramic sunroof, black roof rack side rails, blind spot monitoring, hands-free liftgate, and navigation.

Its technological features include Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, a premium audio system, a rear camera, and a reverse sensing system.

2018 Ford Edge Sport – Engine Specs

This new Edge’s engine is expected to see little change. The present base engine of Edge is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 245 hp and 275 pound-feet of torque. Its SEL and Titanium models get a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque whereas the Edge Sport has a standard 2.7-liter turbocharged six-cylinder with 315 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. The present Edge uses a six-speed automatic transmission, but a new nine-speed transmission is expected for 2018, which is intended to improve already-good drivability and to boost merely midpack fuel economy. The nine-speed automatic should provide smoother acceleration, quicker throttle response, and better fuel economy than the six-speed. Front-drive is standard, while all-wheel-drive is available with both engines.
