2018 Chevy Traverse – Redesign and Trims:

This is the 2nd generation of Chevy Traverse that was proudly shown by GM at the Detroit car show. However, the good thing is it is no cosmetic makeover. Gone is the egg-shaped design of its predecessor. The 2018 Traverse looks more like its sibling –Chevy Tahoe. Some similarities with GMC Acadia are also there. The Car now is more lightweight and in fact, it sheds about 362 pounds of weight despite added length. This is owing to GM’s usage of ultra high strength steel which is durable but lighter. It will be sold in 6 trims- L, LS, LT, Premier along with RS and range-topping High Country. Premier and High Country trims get new D Optic headlamps. The RS trim gets a blacked-out appearance. High Country gets chrome roof rails, unique chrome grille, Led headlamps and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The cabin of 2018 Chevy Traverse is lavish and well designed. Its cabin can be configured to accommodate up to 8 passengers. The seats are large and quite comfortable and space in 2nd and third rows is impressive. You get good cargo space with back seats folded and GM says it beats most rivals hands down here. Besides, there is a useful Hidden under floor rear storage compartment. The cabin is also quiet thanks to GM’s decision to deploy active noise cancellation technology. There are plenty of cleverly positioned storage bins and cubicles to keep small items and gadgets. High country trim gets leather seats, power folding third row, and brown leather interior.

2018 Chevy Traverse – Engine Specs:

The changes are not restricted to the styling in the case of 2018 Chevy Traverse. The engines have also been given sprucing up. The base trim gets GM’s well-known 3.6-liter V-6 that makes 310 hp. The new turbocharged I-4 makes 255 hp but do not mistake it as a slouch! They are both clubbed with a new 9-speed automatic transmission gearbox. Its maximum towing capacity is 500 pounds- quite impressive. The powertrain is assisted by a traction mode select feature. Normal is ideal for most situations. But you also get Snow and Off –road modes, the latter available only in AWD setup.

Safety Features:

Like most of its siblings, the 2018 Chevy Traverse gets equipped with lots of advanced safety features and same is true about infotainment. Of course, most features are offered as standard for last two trims but base trims can also be equipped with advanced features at an extra cost. Safety features include Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Forward Automatic Braking, Lane Keep Assist and Forward Automatic Braking. There is one rear view camera and you also get rear park assist. Top trims also get Surround Vision, adaptive cruise control, intelligent headlights and all trims get Teen driver mode.

GM has included its popular MyLIink Infotainment setup in all 2018 models including the Traverse. It integrates with both Android and Apple devices. The 4G LTE wifi is offered as an option. Based on the trim you choose, there will be 7 or 8-inch display unit with touch support. The nice thing is three rows get USB ports, so there would be no fight overcharging the phones!

2018 Chevy Traverse – Price and Availability:

GM has not announced anything on a pricing of the 2nd generation Traverse. But the base trim price should start around $30000 and top trim price may hover around $30,000. It will reach showrooms for sale in a few months.

The 2018 Chevy Traverse looks like a well-designed crossover SUV. Its rugged styling and improved powertrain help it edge ahead of rivals like Nissan Murano and Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, its success will also depend on pricing which is yet to be revealed.
