Audi is expanding its crossover segment. The carmaker decided to protect names SQ2, SQ4, Q9, and f-Tron. Most of these names suggest the crossover class, while the f-Tron tells us that Audi could soon also offer a model powered by fuel cell technology. Before all of these vehicles, fans will probably see 2018 Audi Q9.
For some time Audi has been working on a new small crossover that should be labeled Q2. According to the patent documentation, the sport version of this novelty is also planned, as Audi has recently protected the name SQ2. The same goes for the Q4. With it and its sibling SQ4, Audi should compete with the new BMW X4. Finally, the company also protected Q9, which probably means that we are waiting for the arrival of a large luxury crossover to a position above the currently biggest Q7.
2018 Audi Q9 Release Date
While most of the SUV lineup for 2018 is already available for purchase, Audi is still waiting with new Q9 crossover. Nevertheless, it will definitely come, sooner or later. Even with possible delay, and launch as 2019 model, the premiere will happen in 2018. But all fans are hoping to see 2018 Audi Q9 in next couple of months.
The 2018 Audi Q9 will be bigger and more luxurious than Q7. That means the price will jump from starting $50,000. Where the price will stop we still don’t know since there is no official confirmation about drivetrain range. Some rumors are reporting about $100,000 for premium trims and equipment.
2018 Audi Q9 Design
The 2018 Audi Q9 will be a full-size crossover coupe. Why the company is getting into this, is unknown. It is very risky move, although the concept pictures of the SUV looks fantastic. Audi will give it their classic style. Big horizontal grille bars with a 4-ring badge at the center are a classic. Under angular headlights are huge air intakes. The crossover is lower than its sibling. Muscular wheel arches can’t steal the spotlight from big rims. Roofline slopes rashly. With such rear end, we doubt there is too much room in the trunk.
Inside the cabin, we can find many premium features. Although concept photos are not showing too much, we can see in new crossovers what to expect from a new vehicle. The new keyless start is already available. Buyers will decorate the interior with few available color schemes, and there are also unique decorative inlays for Audi Q9. Extra equipment installs premium navigation, rear seat infotainment, and black cloth headliner.
2018 Audi Q9 Drivetrain Specs
The 2018 Audi Q9 could borrow engines from Q7. That means the new crossover comes with 2.0-l and 3.0-liter options. The smaller version will come with a turbocharger, and the larger gets a supercharger. Transmission is a new 8-speed automatic gearbox. Power output varies from 250 hp and 335 horses, depending on the engine. With slope on the back, curb weight will be lighter. Lighter crossover can go faster and consume less fuel. The new Q7 can deliver 20/25 mpg for city/highway. Upcoming 2018 Q9 will bring another mile or two per gallon.
