2018 Jaguar I-Pace – Innovation and New Look

The company announced earlier that it would come up with an EV platform for making a future ready sedan and SUV models. JLR on its part says the upcoming I-Pace electric SUV is built on a new dedicated electric vehicle architecture which has allowed designers to explore their creativity to the hilt. The steeply raked windshield, heavily sculpted hood make the vehicle look stylish without being too loud. The rear part and sides are designed for maximum aerodynamic efficacy. The 23-inch Nighthawk wheels and slim LED headlights complement the car’s sleek and muscular exterior styling. The rear window gets a special hydrophobic coating. There is a slender rear spoiler, meant to bring down aerodynamic drag. You may find similarities with the company’s own F-Pace as far as rear part appearance go.

The interior of 2018 Jaguar I-Pace looks lavish, as expected and it is spacious. It can be used to accommodate 5 adults with comfort. The cargo space at default capacity is 19 cubic feet. The seats can feel lower positioned than typical SUVs. Under the center-stack console, there are 500 cubic inches of storage. The panoramic glass roof has embedded LEDs. You get Windsor leather wrapped seats and aluminum door trim. Jaguar’s chief designer, Ian Callum has said the production version will have very similar interior compared to the concept version.

Like its luxury siblings, 2018 Jaguar I-Pace is going to be laden with advanced technologies, for both safety and entertainment. The center console has a 10.0-inch TFT display screen and there is another 5.5-inch display stacked below. The infotainment is JLR’s InControl which supports Smartphone integration and you get Wi-Fi hotspot.

2018 Jaguar I-Pace – Under the Hood

The 2018 Jaguar I-Pace is not going to be a slouch just because it is powered by electric! In fact, it is going to be a peppy SUV, as per the claims made by JLR. The inbuilt lithium-ion 90-kWh battery will let it cover 220 miles after a recharge. The car will reach 60 mph from 0 in 4 seconds which is quite a feat for an electric vehicle. The twin electric motors will be equipped with AWD and the output will be 400 hp. To ensure the ride quality remains top notch, technologies like Adaptive Surface Response and All Surface Progress Control have been deployed. JLR has also deployed a latest thermal management system to ensure batteries remain cool under load. You can either use a 50KW DC charging point or obtain the Jaguar specific 7KW home charging point.

2018 Jaguar I-Pace – Price and Release Date

2018 Jaguar I-Pace is not going to be a cheap priced electric SUV, as expected. While official pricing is not known, industry experts think its price could be close to $100,000 mark.  JLR will launch it in late 2017 and pre-bookings will start online soon.

The 2018 Jaguar I-Pace is an important car for the legendary British carmaker and it does come with some innovative and useful features. The lack of internal combustion engine results in a design that enables more cargo and passenger space. However, upon arrival, the I-Pace will lock horns with a handful of rivals like BMW iNext, Porsche Mission-E, and the much touted Tesla Model X.
