2018 BMW X5 Series, Release Date, Specs

The 2018 BMW X5 is set for production, as is evident from the new developments. Earlier also the test mule was spotted with heavy camouflage. Recently, a production-ready version has also been spotted testing. The upcoming 2018 X5 comes with dynamic new design and changes under the hood as well. In all likelihood, the new X5 will be manufactured at the company’s South Carolina plant.

The design styling of upcoming BMW X5 is dynamic and sporty. This upcoming SUV is based on the company’s Cluster Architecture platform. The familiar twin-kidney grille at the front is enticing and this version gets larger grille. The rear side resembles the existing X5 but it is a little refined and softer. Sloping roof line and roof spoiler add to the sporty appeal. Since the body is made largely with aluminum and CFRP, reduction in overall weight is expected to the amount of 100 kg or more. However, the ruggedness and durability will not be compromised at all. Overall, BMW has made the exterior design more aerodynamic. The expected trims are xDrive35i, xDrive35i, xDrive40e, and xDrive50i.

The cabin of 2018 BMW X5 is expected to be bigger than that of its predecessor. So, both passenger space and cargo space are expected to go up. This will let it compete better with rivals like Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7. Industry sources indicate a boost in quality of cabin material as well.

The 2018 BMW X5 is going to get priced up power train to cope up with steep competition. It will get both gasoline and diesel engines with turbocharged variants kept for top trims. However, the new addition would be a plug-in hybrid version which will have great fuel economy. A performance-focused M version may also be unveiled later. The powertrain will feature 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engines.

As expected, 2018 BMW X5 is going to be a car laden with modern amenities and top safety features. Just like the engine, the infotainment setup of the upcoming X5 may get a revamp. You can expect full Smartphone integration along with GPS, HD radio, and support for voice command. Along with plenty of airbags, the car will be equipped with active safety features like siblings in X series line-up. Modern safety features are likely to be reserved for the top trim.

BMW is yet to reveal official pricing of the 2018 X5. However, it may be priced close to the existing version and so starting price of $56,000 is expected. For top trim, it could be above $65,000. The release date is likely to be in early 2018.

The BMW X5 2018 seems to be a pretty enticing vehicle. While pricing and spec are yet to be unveiled, available updates indicate it will be a well-designed car. The CLAR architecture benefits are imminent. With right pricing, it will spoil the party of Mercedes-Benz and Audi.
